Memorandum of Cooperation with GEOSTM

On 4th of June this yearin the Latvian capital Riga, during the Annual Meeting of CEN – CENELEC, the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) has been signed between the Polish Committee for Standardization and the Georgian National Agency for Standardization and Metrology (GEOSTM). The Polish side was represented by the President of PKN, Mr. Tomasz Schweitzer and the Georgian by the General Director of GOSTM, Mr. Davit Tqemaladze, both of whom signed the MoC. The contractual period is an indifinite one, but each part has the right to withdraw from the MoC. Signingof the MoC concludes a period of over year long negotiations.

The PKN – GEOSTM Memorandum is the first formal agreement which has been signed bythe two standards bodies. The primary objective of the Memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the both institutions through the exchange of information and joint actions. MoC will facilitate the exchange of information and transfer of knowledge between the PKN and GEOSTM thanks to the support of mutual contacts between experts from Poland and Georgia, and also will allow to undertake joint projects in the field of standardization and in other areas of common interest to both parties. The Memorandum serves as a basis for further cooperation between PKN and GEOSTM putting much emphasis on the exchange of experiences between the both institutions.

Georgian National Agency for Standardization and Metrology (GEOSTM) was established in 2005, and since then has been serving as the national standardization body of the Republic of Georgia. The current name has been adopted in May 2012. GEOSTM is affiliated member of the European Standards Organizations CEN and CENELEC. Affiliated membership in ESOs means i.a. that Georgian standardization body is the standardization body from EU’sneighboring country, which is covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), and is considered as a potential candidate for EU membership or at least has links with EU or EFTA.
